La Chapelle Thireuil

Our local village is 3km away and it has a boulangerie/general store and a (very French!) bar. The bread van calls at Saumort three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. It, too, sells provisions as well as a selection of French bread.

Coulonges-sur-L'Autize

Coulonges is 13km away (10-15 mins by car) and has everything you could need for general day to day living: banks/cash points, a supermarket (Super U) with petrol station, chemists, post office..... On Tuesday morning the centre of the village is taken over by a large farmer's market. There are several welcoming bars and there is also a shaded garden behind the Chateau.

Secondigny

Secondigny is 10km away (10-15 mins by car) and has the same ameneties as Coulonges, however, it is not as attractive! The Super U at secondigny does, however, open on a Sunday morning which is very useful after a long day's travel on Saturday.

Restaurants

There is a super restaurant only 4 km up the road in le Beugnon. There are many more great places to eat in the area and we are more than happy to give you some more suggestions and/or book tables for you.

Beaches

Set on the side of a lake, 20km/20mins away, is a sandy beach complete with slides, pedalos and life guard! If only the real thing will do, there are miles of beautiful sandy beaches all along the coast at la Rochelle (1-1 1/2 hours away).
